Jeans father, François, operated a hard paste porcelain factory in Paris from the early 1800s until around 1840. Jean Pouyat established a company circa 1842 at Limoges. Jean died in 1849, and the business was carried on by his son.
About 1883, the company became known as La Céramique. The Pouyat and William Guérin companies were joined in 1912. The vase measures 19.7" (50 cm) tall, 6.1" (15.5 cm) across at the mouth opening and 5.3" (13.5 cm) across at the base; the circumference is 27" (69 cm) at its widest.
